The holiday season is approaching, and with it comes a familiar pull: the endless to-do lists, the expectations from others, the well-meaning advice about “enjoying” the season just the right way. It can feel like everyone around you is moving at a faster pace while you try to catch up—or even keep up with yourself.

This week, I invite you to pause for a moment. Before you buy a single gift, schedule a single event, or scroll through another festive feed, take a breath and notice how you want this season to feel.

Not how it “should” feel, according to others, but how you want to experience it.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I need to feel grounded right now?
  • Where do I want to focus my energy this season?
  • Which parts of the holidays feel nourishing to me, and which feel draining?

You might notice that some expectations you carry aren’t yours at all—they belong to your family, your workplace, or society. And that’s okay. Recognising them is the first step in letting go of the pressure they create.

This isn’t about doing more or doing less. It’s about tuning in: noticing your own needs, slowing down, and giving yourself permission to show up in a way that feels authentic to you. Some days, that might mean saying yes to a gathering. Other days, it might mean saying no, or simply taking a quiet walk outside. Both are valid.

The holidays can be joyful, chaotic, reflective, messy, beautiful—and it’s possible to experience all of that without losing yourself in the process. By gently checking in with yourself along the way, you create space to enjoy what matters most to you, rather than what others expect.

So today, take a small pause. Breathe. Notice what you need. And know that by centring yourself first, you give yourself the gift of truly being present for whatever the season brings.
