Amid the rush of the holiday season, it’s easy to feel as though we must do everything: shopping, cooking, socialising, wrapping, decorating, and more. And in that rush, it can feel like life is passing by in fast-forward.

What if, instead of trying to scale up our efforts, we chose to slow down instead?

Slowing down doesn’t mean doing less. It doesn’t mean missing out. It means noticing. Feeling. Being present.

  • Notice the ordinary moments. The hum of a conversation, the smell of a familiar dish, the warmth of a mug in your hands. These are the details that often get lost in the rush.
  • Check in with your body. Pause to feel your breath, stretch your arms, or notice the rhythm of your steps. Your body carries you through the holidays – give it a little attention and care.
  • Savour experiences, not just food. Eating can be a pleasure, yes, but so can listening, laughing, or even quietly observing. Allow yourself to be in the moment.
  • Release the “shoulds.” You don’t have to attend every event, cook every dish, or decorate every corner. What truly matters is your engagement with what you choose to prioritise.

Presence is a gift you can give yourself, and it often expands quietly into the lives of those around you. By slowing down, you may notice more, appreciate more, and feel more – without adding stress or pressure.

This holiday season, let your attention rest on what truly matters to you. Notice the warmth, the connection, the small joys. Let your pace be guided not by the calendar, but by what you feel in the moment.

The holidays are not about perfection – they are about being here, fully, for yourself and others.
